{Real Weddings} Melissa & Kevin's Shabby Chic Northern California Wedding - Part II

We are bringing to you now Part II of Melissa & Kevin's elegant wedding, beautifully photographed by Matthew James Photographers.  If you haven't seen their gorgeous ceremony yet, please check out Part I.

Behold now the reception, and learn about the details that went into this gorgeous day.

Vision for the day
I wanted the day/evening to be very romantic. Candles and flowers everywhere. My vision was shabby chic and vintage with a elegant touch.

The color palette
Since I wanted a very romantic feel I wanted the colors to be soft. I wanted the flowers to be traditional, I wanted to be able to look back at pictures years from now and still love everything.

The details
A LOT went into the decor. It helped that my mom is an interior decorator also:) We hand picked all of the decor. We spent countless hours at homegoods and all sorts of decor shops picking out all of the flower containers, and murcury glass pieces. We brought everything in from the candle holders to the arch we got married under. We re-stored old vintage style furniture and re-painted them to look shabby chic. The seating chart was a combination of old pieces. We took a small end table that was oak, painted it cream. We took an old headboard that went to a twin bead and also painted it cream and attached it to the table. We took a board and spray painted it with chalkbaord paint and then installed the board into the head board. It tuned out to look like a beautiful frame. We used the drawers to the table to hold flowers. We also took an old mirror re-painted it and used it as a table for our favors. It was held up by two wine barrels. We added the saying "how sweet it is to be loved by you".

The venue
We, actually I should say I, were pretty picky. I wanted to get married at a small quaint venue. I wanted something different. I had always invisioned a vineyward an an old white southern style home. It was perfect, and the grounds are all immaculate.

The planning process
We got engaged in April of 2011 and it took the entire time to plan. We had help from family and friends. It took us awhile to stumble across the venue and then the planning started right away.

The search for the dress
I live in the bay area and went to a few shops near Walnut Creek. I knew I wanted something with lace and I wanted some kind of strap. I tried on several dresses and went to multiple shops and still didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I found it difficult to find the perfect dress that wasn't strapless. My Matron of Honor actually found my dress in a boutique in Stockton, Bliss. The designer happened to be doing a trunk show and they had their 2012 collection. I fell in love with it right away.

Advise for brides when it comes to wedding planning
Enjoy the day it goes by too fast:)

What a vision for the day, and it all came together so beautifully! I'm a lover of all things shabby chic, by the way! I adore so many details seen above, including the chalkboard reception sign seating chart.  I love hearing about all the DIY projects that went into the displays.  The favor table is really cute and creative.

I do have to mention the cake, it's a confection dream! It's like a beautiful ruffled dress, it had to be painful to cut into that work of sweet art...

I agree with Melissa's advice for brides to be, to take a moment to enjoy the day.  For a second, when nobody's talking to you, look around at all your loved ones and what your venue looks like, take a mental snapshot-you will remember it!  The day does fly so fast, and those personal memories stand out the most.

My thanks again to Melissa for sharing all the details with us, and to Matthew James Photographers for the beautiful wedding submission.
