Have any of you lovelies been to a wedding before, after or during a hurricane? Are you getting married in an area prone to hurricanes? I have personally been to a wedding that was supposed to be hit hard by a Cat 2 hurricane, Jova, in October 2011, off the coast of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Luckily Jova was downgraded to a Tropical Storm when it hit shore, but the outer bands did hit where the wedding took place, making my friend's wedding a little soggy. The resort put us all on a curfew and stopped serving alcohol by 8pm the night the actual eye of the storm was to be over Puerto Vallarta. We had boarded up windows, and all lower level rooms were closed, so many guests were displaced. It wasn't "fun" but we all made the most of it with the newlyweds and guests that were stuck! It made for many great memories.
I bring up the topic of hurricanes with today's featured wedding, as this couple's wedding took place one week after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy hitting the North Eastern Seaboard. As you can see here, by the beautiful imagery, photographed by Tonya Malay Photography, not a cloud in the sky! But oh what an ordeal just one week prior!
Tonya shares wish us Traci & Alex's wedding, and how they coped with a wedding following a severe hurricane:Traci and Alex are from Cliffside Park, New Jersey and were married on November 3, 2012 at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort on Marco Island, Florida. Their wedding took place less than a week after Hurricane Sandy hit their hometown in New Jersey, and many of their friends and family from NJ ended up driving to Florida due to their flights being cancelled. Despite the additional stress and worries of the storm, Traci and Alex had a beautiful wedding surrounded by their amazing friends and family. Traci is an account executive for a Luxury Men's Clothing Company, and Alex is Vice President of the Middle East Marketing Group. They were college sweethearts at the University of Rhode Island, and have been together for 10 years before Alex FINALLY put a ring on it. They decided to have a destination wedding since their friends and family would be traveling from all over the US and overseas, and they both love the beach. Traci found all of her wedding inspiration from bridal magazines, pinterest and online wedding blogs. Traci decided on a hint of vintage and romantic theme for her wedding. She loves the soft color palette of a vintage wedding, and chose blush, ivory and gold as her wedding colors. Candles gave the ballroom the romantic ambiance that she envisioned for her reception. Alex is Armenian, the one of the highlights of the night was the Traditional Armenian Circle Dance.
Oh the stress Traci & Alex must have had when the hurricane was happening, and knowing all guests were making their way by car, from all over, to get to their wedding! But, they all made it, and the wedding was gorgeous, as you can see below!
So, please, won't you enjoy Traci & Alex's Romantic Marco Island Wedding, captured by Tonya Malay Photography:
What a stunning couple, with an equally stunning wedding! I love the color palette of blush, ivory and gold, it is very feminine and delicate. Incorporating elements of Armenian culture into the wedding too is so important, and says a lot about these two.
Many thanks, as always, to Tonya Malay Photography for this beautiful submission!
