Wedding Traditions Broke by the Royals

Published by Silver Karen on

The royal weddings were the most anticipated weddings of all time. But, did you know that the royals broke some of the traditions at their wedding? If you want to know what are those, take a look at the following broken royal wedding traditions.

Broken Royal Wedding Traditions

1-Omission of the word “obey” from their wedding vows

When Prince Charles and Diana exchanged their wedding vows, Diana did not include the word obey him into her vow. Originally, based on the 1662 Anglican Book of Common Prayer, a wife should promise to love, comfort, honor, keep, and obey his husband. But the latter was first omitted by Diana. Afterward, this practice of omitting that word from the royal vow was also continued by Kate Middleton, Princess Eugenie, and Meghan Markle.

2-Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding has officiated by a non-member of the Church of England

Based on the royal wedding tradition, it is written in their protocol that only the priests in Britain and senior Church members of England are allowed to speak during the royal wedding. But, Markle and Harry’s wedding broke this rule. Their wedding was officiated by an Archbishop of Canterbury named Justin Welby.

3-Eugenie wore a reception American dress rather than a British-made one

Instead of wearing a British-made gown at her royal wedding, Eugenie wore a reception dress. It is a long-sleeved silk gown with a pleated skirt.
